Cardiac Investigations Department

Who are we?

The Cardiac Investigations Department work in a multidisciplinary team comprising of Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographers who are committed to providing highly specialised cardiac diagnostics, both at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital.

The team use a wide range of procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment for patients born with Congenital Heart Disease from Fetus to Adult.

We work closely with the Cardiologist and a wide range of other health care professionals to aid in the diagnosis and ongoing care of patients with congenital heart disease and their families.

 

When will you meet us?

 Antenatally within Fetal clinics at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

 During outpatient and clinic appointments for children aged 0 to 18 years at the Leicester Royal Infirmary or Glenfield Hospital for patients aged 18 years or over.

 Within inpatient hospital settings such as Paediatric or Adult Intensive Care Unit, Wards and Interventional Catheter laboratory.

 

What does our service provide?

During your clinic visit an ECG and Echocardiogram may be performed before seeing the Cardiologists with any further tests being arranged at a later date if required.

These tests may include:

 ECG

 Heart monitors to wear at home

 Exercise stress testing

 Pacemaker checks including home monitoring

 Advanced echocardiography clinics including contrast and sedated echocardiography

We also provide support during more invasive procedures such as Cardiac Catheterisation and Pacemaker implantation.
